Congratulations to core faculty Carrie Nieman, MD, MPH, for being selected as a 2023 Johns Hopkins Catalyst Award recipient!  Nieman is among 37 talented, early career faculty members representing all nine academic divisions of Johns Hopkins University who were recognized with this award.

Nieman was selected for her work in HEARS - Hearing health Equity through Accessible Research and Solutions -  a program designed to bridge gaps in who gets hearing care.  Nieman’s randomized clinical trial, published in JAMA in December 2023, validates a model of hearing care that empowers community health workers to reach older adults with untreated hearing loss.

Further trials of the HEARS program are planned at three sites across Maryland, and Nieman is seeking collaborators and funding to grow the program globally.
